CEI Creates Multilingual Portal for $10 Billion Food Company
< Back
This client is a $10 billion food processing and distribution company with a
global presence. The company needed a content management information portal that
would function as an Intranet, Internet and Extranet for its multiple
subsidiaries and 20,000 employees worldwide.
Because of the global scope of the client’s operations and its large market presence in Central and South America, multilingual content and keyword search capabilities in English, Portuguese and Spanish were top priorities for the initial phase of the project. Personalization was also vital to the delivery of content specific to a user’s role and language preference. A secondary aim of the project was to deliver the capability to build new sites based on the application’s core architecture.
CEI created a solution that tied an ATG Dynamo content management system to
Interwoven’s robust back office workflow management system. The site’s architecture allows public users to view general content over the Internet. Private Intranet users are able to review specific content for their company or business group. Finally, suppliers and vendors can also review content specific to their needs. In order to support collaboration, a bulletin board was implemented to allow users on the Intranet and Extranet to share “best practices.”
The application’s role-based security system categorizes content and links keywords to the content in multiple languages. Workflow is managed in a multi-tier approval and publication process. Complex workflow clears additional approval processes through a back office data repository. A Java-based ATG framework facilitates dynamic, personalized content, menus and text in the end user’s language of choice. Content for North and South America passes through regional data centers.
The client now has a flexible information portal that will meet the needs of the
Internet, intranet and corporate extranet business users. The dynamic site
design allows the site to grow and scale with little IT maintenance, and new
sites can be created from the core architecture. The solution supports the
international needs of the company and is completely scalable to support diverse
users and business objectives. The
client is very pleased with the solution and engaged CEI to extend the
system through additional phases.
